Cooper Graham Beckel in front of the Internet Archive in San Francisco

Cooper is a multidisciplinary artist, and thinker. Not long after earning his degree at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (now part of Tufts University), he found himself in San Francisco working in the AI space. He has spent the last 7 years designing, and producing data for AI systems: working towards those systems achieving their goals optimally and safely. His professional work in AI involves 'alignment', systems design, data design, data production, collection, and labeling operations. Cooper's artistic work has focused on reacting to and engaging with a world of complex systems. This theme is primarily encapsulated by his 'Serpent Disco' project, which juxtaposes belief injection systems and explores themes of faith, technology, and late post-modernity. Recently, Cooper's primary artistic focus is advocating for artists involvement in the AI industry: not as the creators of images or users of these systems, but as 'guides of perception' involved in the creation and conceptualization of entities which AI systems seek to interact with. Cooper currently resides in New York City where he maintains both his professional work and artistic practice; along with building collaborative relationships which he is always seeking more of.
